"It's Show time"! The familiar sound of The Gourmet Gal's final acknowledgement that her party is about to begin. The staff of Debbie Mackey's catering service knows full well that the days work is just beginning. The business is located in Ticonderoga, NY, and services an area from the capitol district to the Canadian border and from Lake Placid well into Vermont.
During the hectic summer months, it's not unusual for The Gourmet Gal to handle functions on a daily basis and some days more than one event is catered. Most every weekend is dedicated to weddings. Mostly outside, and located lakeside or in private back yards, it seems that nothing is impossible. She is able to take a space that is empty and transform it into something magical. The Gourmet Gal is a full service catering operation that is able to handle everything from tent, table, chair, china and linen rentals to florists, photographers, DJ's, and every detail right down to the port a-potties! Most events have a theme and she is thrilled to incorporate that aspect of the event into her meals. She offers pre-set menus or will work with the customer to assist them in creating their menu. All food items are freshly prepared using the finest ingredients. From the simplest backyard picnic to the most elaborate and lavish receptions, and everything in between, she does it all. Every caterer has their own style and Debbie likes to think of hers as "simply.....elegant"; without being stuffy. Her staff consists of 20 local people some of who work full time and some on an as needed basis. "They make my business what it is today. My customer surveys indicate that my staff is professional and courteous and in many instances repeat customers specifically request certain servers. That's a huge reflection on what we do and knowing that we are able to offer something that is not readily available in Ticonderoga and the surrounding communities is exciting!
With just eight years doing business as The Gourmet Gal, Debbie is just flabbergasted at the demand for her services. "We've grown beyond my wildest dreams!", she stated. Debbie and one of her staff, Kaelyn, attended cake decorating classes in Plattsburgh from a Master Decorator and now a fair portion of her time goes into cake making and decorating.
"I think people like us because we're local, down to earth, and willing to make every accommodation for the success of the party. Our goal is to make every event special and to remove all the stress from the customer. It goes without saying that people generally have no idea the time and effort that goes into each function. A party that may last 4 or 5 hours, may very well take up to 20 hours of preparation with 6 to 10 people working to handle the details of the event. The party should be effortless for the customer, that's why they call on us to provide our services." Debbie has pictures of past events she's catered along with books of customer surveys that prospective clients may review when planning their parties.
The most exciting news she has to share at this time is the introduction of her newest item! The Gourmet Gal's Savory Sauce. The sauce started out as the family's favorite salad dressing. It was introduced as The Gourmet Gal's house dressing and has become one of her most requested recipes. She's gone through all the requirements to receive approval from governing agencies, to bottle and distribute this sauce. It's a multipurpose sauce, great as grilling glaze for poultry, pork, lamb and ribs. It's a super dipping sauce for raw veggies, great on chicken nuggets and mozzarella sticks and so much more.
